Increased File Size Limit

Due to public demand I have increased the file size limit of the server to 100 megabytes.  Yay!

I’ve also added a counter on the homepage to show how much storage I’m taking up. This actually helps me figure out what’s going on as right now I haven’t yet built any reporting scripts into the system. =(

Free File Sharing and Hosting at Zen Dump (zendump.com)

Yesterday was an unusually busy day for me. It went something like this…

Wake up really late, write a little bit, pay some bills, wife drags me out of the house, we run to the bank and deposit some money, drive to Bed Bath & Beyond, stop by Starbucks, run to Barnes and Noble, visit Circuit City, then Men’s Wearhouse, ate lunch at Einstein Brothers, drove to the bike shop, drove further to Williams-Sonoma, toured Ikea (you can’t visit Ikea, you have to tour it), popped into Office Depot, had dinner at an awesome Cuban Bistro, got some goodies at a bakery, then went home and played Monopoly. Twice.

Then, I decided it would be nice to give back to the community that has provided me with so much knowledge and joy. I wondered, what kind of problem do people on the internet always run into and how can I help them in a little way? I thought about everyone who uses the internet, uses email, probably attachments, attachments can get big, or maybe they need to share with too many people where e-mail is not a great medium. Maybe they don’t have a web server, or maybe it’s a popular file and they don’t have the bandwidth. The solution? Provide them a free tool that will allow them to dump their extra files anonymously on a super fast clustered network. So at the end of this day, I sat down and created all the download and upload scripts, made the design (very plain) and created ZenDump.com.

In the future, plan to see more options such as password protection, encryption, file management, chat with others downloading the same file, and a file wall. But for now, here is my gift to you, the Internet, happy belated Christmas.
